Shopping for crafts in KL

This request is a bit specialised but maybe someone out there has the answer.

I%26#39;ll be in KL in August, just briefly, and would welcome suggestions of places which sell beautiful crafts (Malay, Indian, Thai, any other) and especially handmade paper. I%26#39;m hoping to find some really above average items and obviously don%26#39;t mind if they%26#39;re therefore more expensive.

Any recommendations ??

Thanks

The Central market is the place to be then. It%26#39;s some where near the Chinatown. If memory serves me right, if you%26#39;re taking the skytrain (borrowed from BKK, for lack of a better word) , you should alight at Pasar Seni Station and walk across the road to the greenish building. Not sure if they sell handmade paper though. It%26#39;s mainly arts and crafts from local artists. You will need to practise some haggling.

Suria KLCC also has some nice shops, some of their stuff is expensive so you need to be able to tell if they are really good stuff or just marked up for tourists.

Central Market is indeed off from Station Pasar Seni (from the old Putra LRT).

Suria KLCC has some elegant shops at the very end with some antiques, paintings and artefacts.

Both are mainly Malay... not sure about Indian or Thai crafts...

Karyaneka Handicraft. Don%26#39;t know whether there is one in the tourist area of Bukit Bintang now. Do an internet search for it.
