Daily costs

We (married couple in mid 50%26#39;s) are about to have a two week holiday in Penang: 1st week in Batu Ferrenghi, 2nd week in Georgetown. Hotels are booked, but what sort of budget should we allow for day to day living expenses?

If you are not a big spender (esp expensive restaurants or at hotels etc..), I%26#39;d say allow youself RM100 per day for the two of you; just for food and transport. Penang is a very cheap place to live in.

Hello Peter

The bulk of your expenditure would come from the transportation prices. Taxis make the most money from foreigners, so remember to ask for pricing before you decide to travel by taxi.

Food is relatively cheap, cheaper still if you want to experience the hawker foodstalls. A very good meal at a high class restaurant could come up to about RM80-100 per person. So you might want to budget that into account if you decide to dine in class.

Shopping at Batu Ferringhi night market is cheap but remember to bargain.

What do you both plan to do in Penang? If you are mostly sightseeing, you won%26#39;t be spending a lot because entrance fees to most places (i.e. museum, Cheong Fatt Tze mansion, clan houses, etc) should be less than RM10.
