Malaysia for the very first time: Suggestions for itinerary?

My family and I will be visiting Malaysia between 23rd July and 8th August this year. Apart from staying in Kuala Lumpur for between 4-5 nights, and visiting Singapore, I am having difficulty in deciding where else to go. I think the children, aged 14, 15 and 1, would enjoy the Genting Highlands and the theme park, so I thought we could take a trip there. But where else would you guys suggest?

So far we have kind of decided on the following :

23rd July Arrive in Kuala Lumpur 9pm stay overnight

24th July Leave for Bali

24th July to 29th July In Bali

29th July Leave for Singapore

29th July to 31st July In Singapore

We also need to fit in approx. 4/5 days in Kuala Lumpur, so maybe between 4th/5th August to 8th August as our final flight departs from Kuala Lumpur.

I need help for the time 31st July to 5th August. What would you guys recommend? The Cameron Highlands look beautiful, and so does the East coast of Malaysia, do you think it is practical to think of a trip that side in the time we have? Could we perhaps hire a car and go by road? Is there any train that goes from Singapore to the East side, that would save us coming back to Kuala Lumpur and then leaving again to go somewhere else. I was thinking of perhaps the Cameron Highlands and then onto Pulau Langkor before returning back to KL?? We are travelling with 3 children, aged 14, 15 and 15 months so we have to consider and plan carefully!

I would really appreciate your response. Many thanks:)
