transfer from brunei to kota kinabalu

Having trouble getting connecting airfare for our friend from Brunei to KK. We arrive at 1955hrs . Is there any other airline that flies this route. Is there a overnight airconditioned bus. Any other ideas. We have seats but friend doesnt.

Only Royal Brunei flys the Route. There is no such thing as a bus service as there are really no good roads connection Brunei with KK.

There is a ferry service from Brunei to KK via Labaun. This runs several times a day and takes about 4 hours.

Fly Asia Exprees (FAX) fly from Labaun to KK so another option might be ferry to Labaun and the FAX

Have a look at skyscanner.net/aud/…

for FAX Information.

The ferry takes just under an hour and a half one-way.

sorry, hit submit too soon. It takes about 75 minutes from Brunei to Labuan, and then onto KK. If you are stuck in Labuan, you could go visit Peace Park, Surrender Point to see the spot where the Japanese surrendered at the end of WW2.

Hi..Few options: -

Notice u arrived quite late so obviously need to spend a nite in Brunei.

My Prefered choice:-

1. Take a cab down to Miri (cheaper accomodation there). Try budget airline Airaisa ETD 0815 ETA0905 KK (go online: www.airasia.com so no more tickletless situation :-p) OR Malaysia Airline 2 flight out ETD 0825 and 0905.

Others

2. Put up a nite in Brunei. Take the ferry (year-end sea is rough so beware of sea-sick.. if not, shall be ok if u hv no problem with rocking boat).. see schedule here http://www.labuan.net/getting-to-labuan.html. Not worth taking ferry to Labuan %26amp; rush to airport (waiting time/landing time/taxi fare) coz u would had reach KK by then : )

3. Check flights out from Brunei to KK as last resort ;-( on stand-by basis. Worse case.. zzz at airport %26amp; try luck following day but bear in mind not many flights available.

Hope this helps.. Happy trip.

thanks everyone for your very informative comments. Looks like ferry via Labuan is the go! With a bit of history thrown in. We are really looking forward to our trip in a month

Here is the How to do it guide :-)

Catch the bus from the bus terminal in BSB at 7.00am - it goes to Muara which is the ferry terminal - cost BN$2 pp - if you catch a later bus you may miss the first ferry, and you need to catch that to get the connecting one if you want to go through in a day :-)

The ferry leaves at 8.00am - takes about 1 hour to get there. (BN$15 + BN$1 departure tax pp)

When you get to Labuan, when you exit the terminal, turn right then turn right again into the ticket office. This is where you pay the terminal tax and get your ticket to Kota Kinabalu - cost MYR34 pp

the ferry departs 1pm. There is also a baggage storage to the LEFT when you come out the terminal - MYR3 per large bag. we left our bags there while wandering around!

we made the trip in Dec 3006 from Brunei to KK and from KK to Brunei twice - Feb 2007 and Mar 2007.

Hope this helps :-)

You have ample time, then, to visit Surrender Point. When we were in Labuan (for a bit of business), we got a taxi driver for an hourly-rate tour. After we saw some war cemetaries, Peace Park, and some beaches, the driver gave up after an hour and took us back to town. He only made one hour of fees; he had run out of places to take us.
