Need Help!

We are planning to spend the last two weeks of December in Langkawi after spending the same time of the year in Phuket the last three years. We already chose the hotels: CDM %26amp; Tanjung Ru. We read great reviews about the hotels, but there are mixed feedbacks about Langkawi in forums. Is it too quiet at night? We are not party people, but we like to be in the middle of the action after a relaxing day. Is there any action like night shopping, live music restaurants, bars, massage salons etc.? Are there too many local tourists during this time due to the school holidays? We appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Think your going to find Langkawi a bit on the quiet side after Phuket. There is no ';middle of the action%26#39; places on Langkawi.

Entertainment is resort based, shopping is very limited, there are a few massage salons, very different to the Thai kind of experience.

There is lots of local tourists, far more than europeans. Northern Malaysia (inc Langkawi) is very, very islamic. This means it is nothing like the laidback anything goes feel that you find in Thailand, unfortunetly !

CDM is nice, decent location (for Langkawi), Tanjung is also very nice but you will need a car to get anywhere (or taxi). North eastern tip of Langkawi, there is nothing there apart from the Four Seasons resort.

Hi

I can only second what Alberts says -Langkawi is nothing at all like Phuket, very, very quiet, no clubs/discos, all entertainment centres around the hotels and is very low key.

I would say its more your relaxing and early nights type of place. You may find it a bit too quiet after Phuket.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I am afraid we need to change our plans :-(
