Hello,
We%26#39;ll be staying in KL for three nights in July. As we love Chinese food so badly, we are looking for famous (cheap-average price range) dimsum restaurant in city centre area, or other Chinese restaurant with great roasted duck/bbq pork? Or perhaps also seafood restaurant with their bestseller speciality?
Thanks for the info in advance!
Dimsum brunch in KLIf your budget is thus, head to Chinatown (Jalan Petaling) and look out for yourself the various eateries there, don%26#39;t restrict yourselves to Cantonese cuisine as mentioned by you, they%26#39;re many variations of Chinese food in Malaysia , you can sit alfresco on the roadside and have Chinese fondue or dishes with some beer.
Or Jalan Alor which is behind Jln Bukit Bintang (Jalan or in short Jln means street or road in Malay). The stretch where Federal Hotel is and it%26#39;s behind the shops opposite it.
There used to be one Seafood restaurant along Jln Conlay or thereabouts where the live fishes, crustaceans, clams etc are reared in water tanks and everything is so freshly cooked. Maybe someone in the forum can be more specific.
Dimsum brunch in KLIf you are looking for dimsum, might wanna try the one at Regent hotel in Bukit Bintang. Just opposite KL Plaza (ie. the building w planet hollywood).
Hi ani81,
In Sungei Wang Plaza which is an old time favorite with locals with many cheap clothings and restaurants, there is one chinese restaurant with outdoor and airconditioned tables on the right hand side of the plaza entrance.
They serve dim sum, roasted pork and duck all day. Prices are reasonable and service is quite prompt.
Inside the plaza, on the second and third floor, there are few good restraurants serving various type of chinese food. Ones with many locals are usually good indicators.
I read that you will be in Malacca too, Renaisance and Bayview Hotel (which are opposite each other) has dim sum buffet (order all you can) on Sunday for RM25. Don%26#39;t miss it. The best chinese restaurant in Melaka is Bei Zhan in Melaka Raya which is well known with excellent food and low prices compared to KL.
When I was in Amsterdam, I did go for roast pork and duck in china town too. The style there is more similar to Hong Kong.
RioJ,
U mean Conlay club? aka Kelab Conlay? It%26#39;s next to Prince residence and hotel
Hi AlexMcca,
Thank for all your replies! I appreciate it!
Yes, we%26#39;ll visit Singapore first, then take bus to Malacca with end destination Kuala Lumpur. Definitely will try dimsum restaurant you recommended in Malacca.. In Malacca we%26#39;ll be staying in Aldy Hotel, just for one night, suppose to be centrally located in tourist attraction area.
Btw, since we%26#39;ll be arriving in Malacca with bus at Jalan Tun Ali, is that far from Aldy Hotel? Do you have any suggestion if we have to take taxi or such?
Thanks a lot!!
Hi ani_81,
Most people only do one night in Melaka which is enough to cover most sights as they are clustered together. Aldy is probably the most central hotel as it is in the middle of Studhuy and A Famosa. You can take green town bus 17 which will stop in the studhuy, which is painted in red and Aldy hotel is further down from there on the side strret towards A Famosa.
Taxi will cost RM15. If u take the old and un air conditioned town bus 17, it costs less than RM2 each person.
If you like to read a bit of history, here is an interesting page.
