Thanks for earlier replies. We%26#39;ve now had chance to do further homework, %26amp; after reading many favourable reviews would like to spend 3 nights at the Shangri-La with access to the horizon club. Does it pay to book the Horizon room in advance, or pay the extra when we arrive?
We would also like to take a train trip from KL, %26amp; as indicated in an earlier reply, there is a train to Tampin at 0830 arriving 1029, returning either at 1336 or 1813.I know we could go to Melaca %26amp; return on the later train, but if we return on the earlier train, is there much to do in Tampin for 3 hours?
As my wife %26amp; I are both pretty fit senior citizens %26amp; this will be our first visit to Malaysia, we would welcome any further advice or suggestions.
3 nights in KL in October
Hi Peter,
I cannot answer your question about Shangrila, sorry.
With regards to taking train to Melaka, just do one way if you really want to try Malaysian Rail. Purhcase the ticket at ktmb.com.my.
Tampin is a small town with nothing to see and do, so waiting there for 3 hours is a waste of time. Besides, while Malacca is compact, half a day is minimum if you want to cover the main sights. If you like history, you can do longer as there are many decent museums there. In fact, the museum complexes in Melaka probably lets you see many things about Malaysia (archiecture museum, Islamic museum), let alone the Maritime Museum, Baba Nyonya House Museum and Cheng Ho Museum unique to Melaka.
www.malacca.ws has a map of historic sites and places to see.
Coach is the best option from KL to Melaka and there is at least one bus runs every hour from 6am to 10 pm. I recommend you not to buy the return bus ticket as you can leave at your leisure except for Friday and Sunday evening when buses may be busy.
If you come during Friday to Sunday, stay till late for the night bazaar in Jonker Street which has good ambiance and interesting stores to see.
