Best beach in Penang

I am in Penang for 5 days in September for honeymoon. Where about is the best place to stay in Penang? I prefer nice beach, restaurants, bit of shopping etc etc.

Please also recommend me a hotel in that area.

Many Thanks.

Best beach in Penang

Nobody has responded? Oh well; I think the best stretch of beach in Penang is on the west coast of the island but there are no hotels there. It is rural and there are no facilities for tourists.

Batu Ferringhi area (north coast) is your best bet. There are lots of hotels to choose from and for your honeymoon, I%26#39;d recommend the Rasa Sayang Shangri La Resort. Read the thread on ';things to do in Penang'; for mention of other hotels.

Congratulations and Happy planning!

Best beach in Penang

Thanks a lot for your reply

How about georgetown? I was thinking of Traders Hotel (formerly sangri-la) or E %26amp; O. Please suggest.

Thanks again

Narayan,

There is no beach in Georgetown. I agree with gasman, your best bet is Batu Ferringhi. Most people tend to use the swimming pool rather than sitting out on the beach anyway.

As per gasman suggestion (Rasa), it might be worth having a look online at Golden Sands and Grand Plaza Park Royal.

If you are making arrangements yourself, you could stay a few nights at Batu then transfer to one of the Georgtown hotels, beach %26amp; city, there is lots to see in Georgetown.

Albert, thats a good idea.

Thanks a million.

would seriously think about the E%26amp;O, stayed there last year and going again this dec, nice pool area, very quiet and relaxing, taxi to b f only a couple of pounds which we did a few evenings, look at some of the reviews,

Hi

agree with Dozydai. E%26amp;O not beach but fantastic and in Georgetown. Taxis cheap.

But if want to stay in BF stretch to the Rasa Sayang- worth it.

We stay a few days in GT and then a few in BF, best of both worlds

have fun.

Best place to stay in Penang with nice beaches ... you might want to head to Batu Ferringhi. I would recommend Rasa Sayang Resort if you want to splurge. Otherwise, the Parkroyal Hotel or Lone Pine are newly renovated spa hotels which are very nice too.

The only shopping you can do there is the Batu Ferringhi night market. There are plenty of restaurants there, but mostly catering for tourist and are way overpriced.

If you want to stay somewhere nearer to the heart of the city, the new G Hotel is lovely, located beside a huge shopping mall (Gurney Plaza), walking distance from plenty of good food places.

Gurney Drive is a seafront promenade, but you cannot go down to the beachfront.

Else you might want to opt for E%26amp;O Hotel. No beaches, but there is the seafront view. Just across the street is where Penang night life comes alive at the Upper Penang Road. Plenty of high class eateries around this area.

High class eateries, but way more expensive than the places in Batu mate !

I must disagree with you melly10; I don%26#39;t find any food outlet in Gurney Plaza good at all; just pricey! Just a hip place for youngsters to hang out.

Hey gasman

I didn%26#39;t say that the food outlets in Gurney Plaza were good.

What I meant to say was that there are plenty of food places that are good along Gurney Drive (i.e. walking distance away from G Hotel or Gurney Plaza). :)
