Hi doopwoop,

5 nights may be too long for KL and Singapore unless you want to do a lot of shopping and dinning. Depending on your flight route, you can have a few stops along the way from KL to Langkawi. Penang is recommended for a few night stop as there are colonial buildings, temples and hawker food to sample. From Penang, you can take a 2.5 hour ferry to Langkawi. From there you can take a flight to Singapore or to KL and travel south. Melaka is worth at least a day trip to see the most historic part of Malaysia.

In september, it is officially the Monsoon season in Langkawi but last year many TA members have feedback that rains were intermittent and are usually a welcome relief from the scorching sun. With 5-6 night stay, you are likely to have at least a few beautiful days.

Swimming in the sea is not that popular in Langkawi. Mind you you won%26#39;t find water clarity of Maldives or Seychelles here. Most people enjoy walking along the long stretch of white sand and the distant view of islands and hills along the beach. The sea can be murky especially after the storm but you can still do some dipping.

Of course, the recommended lenght of stay depends on indiviuals as some find staying less than 3 nights in a place not the holiday they want while others may get bored with a city like KL after 3 nights.
