Honeymoon: Bali or Langkawi??

Our wedding is in December 07, and we%26#39;re planning to spend new year%26#39;s in Kuala Lumpur. And we are stuck on deciding whether to choose Bali or Langkawi.

Which has better beaches?Nightlife?

Honeymoon: Bali or Langkawi??

Definitely BALI,more diversify, more night life, more cultural activities, more interesting, more beaches, and you can also cross over to LOMBOK by ferry of flight

Honeymoon: Bali or Langkawi??

Bali definitely

maramborhan, Bali and Langkawi are quite different places....what is it that you are looking to get from your honeymoon?

Toabster,

That%26#39;s a sensible question. It%26#39;s hard to compare two very different islands.

A decision about where to go for me is also based on a whole lot of other factors, eg. whether I%26#39;m familiar with the culture. I find Malaysia really exciting at the moment because I%26#39;m unfamiliar with it. But I%26#39;ve been to Bali 8 times. I love it, but I also like the adventure of getting to know somewhere new.

The other thing is that Bali can be a different experience depending on where you go. Ubud is completely different from Kuta. I love the former but can%26#39;t stand the latter.

And - as you imply - it all depends on what you want out of a holiday. I want to eat the local food, not drink vast quantities of beer with a group of loud Australians. I want to shop for sarongs rather than buy bottles of fake chanel.

Hi, if it boils down to better beaches and nightlife-there is still no one close end answer.

In Bali, unless you are at Nusa Dua Beach or Jimbaran Beach (though the beach here is only accessible by cliff of steps), then Langkawi beach is better- less beach touts, and beach touts in Bali, expecially in Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak -the beach areas, are pretty agreesive and can be rather irritating. Though as one moves further from Kuta, the beach touts are less pronounced.

Nightlife-then one cannot really zoom on Bali as oneness, as nightlife in Ubud of Bali is similar to Langkawi, but Langkawi will not have a vibrant nightlife as found in Kuta.

In terms of accommodation-Bali do offer more diverse choices-from the private villa, where you have a private pool, driver(to take you around the island), butler and cook at your service, and of course, terrific choices of spa localities.

the closest to this type of villa accommodation in Langkawi, but no private butler and cook is the villa in the Datai.

having cover on this area, a particular factor is the month of your travel, which I can definitely say, Bali will receive higher rainfall in Jan compared to Langkawi, though as with most tropical climates, this rainfall comes and goes, and usually during a certain hour of the day,i.e. night or morning/afternoon.

However, if sights are to be taken into consideration, then the sights of landscaped rice terraces, lake volcano craters at elevations as high as 5,000m above sea level (with cooler ambient temperature and better air quality), arts and culture, dance performances (barong, Kecak), then Bali has a upper notch here.

So, if you are looking for a relaxing honeymoon, with not much activities(i.e. this and that to do and see), then Langkawi will offer that.

One final note, I notice that you are located in Cairo, and if you are an Egyptian and your diet calls for halal food, then Langkawi will be a safer choice, as Bali, is actually a Hindu religion community, and their diet composed mainly of meat (pork and poultry). To your surprise, Balinese consider the sea to be inauspicious, so they do not go out to sea, most come from Lombok, which is a Muslim community island. They only get close to the sea for salt panning at Kusumba. So, seafood products are actually rather expensive.

My friend.

My advice would be to let you ';wife to be'; choose. If you choose and you make the wong decision, you will get nothing but complaints from your wife for the duration of your holiday. As you have a lifetime of nagging to endure, it would be nice if you could have a peaceful honeymoon.

LET HER DECIDE

Bali and Langkawi are about the same I guess.. There are TOP 10 beaches in this world. One near by Phuket and another in Kota Kinabalu. As i know.. the expenses in Phuket is higher than Kota Kinabalu. The both nightlife are OK!

I%26#39;ve been to both.

BALI definitely is the better choice. Or shld I say THE choice.

It has quiet, private beach (dreamland), a more commercial beach w touts (kuta), paddy fields, volcano, safari, beautiful temples perched on a cliff (Ulu Watu) or by the sea (Tanah Lot), romantic seafood dinner by the sea at Jimbaran. Dining and partying at Jalan Legian. At least a week is needed to appreciate the diversed beauty of Bali.

Langkawi... only cable car and the 7 wells waterfall. Unless u spend another 100USD on trips to the other islands. The beaches are beautiful though. No nightlife. Streets are quiet by 10pm. 4 days is enough to explore.

In the end. It really boils down to what%26#39;s your idea of a holiday.

Not having been to Bali I can only talk about Langkawi.

As others have said Langkawi is a pretty quiet place with not much to do especially at night. As this was exactly what my wife and I were looking for it turned out to be a wonderful experience and we plan to go back again.

We only stayed 7 nights and I feel if we%26#39;d stayed any longer boredom may have set in. Definitely hire a car as it gives you so much more freedom. But if you%26#39;re looking for a vibrant nightlife I%26#39;d imagine Bali is the place for you.
