We would be interested in spending a day or two diving when we stay in Langkawi.
Not sure where the dive centres are generally based though. I understand the best diving is at Payar - but where do the dive boats start from?
Can anyone recommend a good dive centre they have experience of?
DivingLangkawi Coral run day trips to Palau Payar from Kuah Jetty. You can book through a local agent, through your resort or just go to the jetty and book it yourself.
Expect to pay around 180/200RM. It just depends on whats included.
The boats out to Payar depart from the jetty, try to book a day in advance.
DivingHave a look at this website, it gives you an example of a fairly typical day trip.

There are only 2 dive operators on Langkawi, East Marine (at the Kuah Yacht club) and Pro Dive at Pantai Cenang
Thanks for your replies. I%26#39;m reading elsewhere that the diving is not so good on the west coast and I%26#39;m thinking we should perhaps head east - perhaps to Pulau Redang.
The best is on Perhantian, but it still depends on when you are traveling. The Andaman Sea of the west coast of Thailand is even better.
I would not trust dive operators on Langkawi, the whole place, atittude is ';god willing';
Good Luck !
I agree about Thailand - the best diving I%26#39;ve ever experienced was at the Similan Islands - just fantastic.
I was just looking at Perhentian - looks pretty nice. Not much on trip advisor about accommodation tho...
We are going to be in Malaysia next April (yes, I like to plan ahead!). We intend to go to the Malaysian Grand Prix then have a few days chilling and perhaps some diving too.

Any bad experience with the Dive operators on Langkawi?
I actually had the feeling that East Marine were quite good and well organized when I dived with them in January.
Compared to many dive operators in Thailand and the Maldives they seemed relaxed and safety orientated, what I can%26#39;t say about our Dive operator in Phuket where our Dive Master disappeared after 10 minutes and left us alone.
East Marine divers is very professonal and fully licensed.
Dive trip for one day is RM 280 snorkling is RM 220
You can also go for your Padi that takes 4 or 5 days.
You can book at your hotel or at their website
warm regards from Langkawi
