Penang Golden Sands

Hello.

We are hoping to travel to penang 6 nights in July school holidays.

Does anyone know the best room/area of the hotel to request? (we want a direct seaview room/quiet). Is it superior to other hotels?

Thanks

Penang Golden Sands

Hi, getting a direct seaview room in Golden Sands is the best option to take,as room facing the road, is a little mosque(';surau';) that is too close for comfort, particularly with the daily five times prayer calls.

Golden Sands, belongs to the Shangri-La Group, and it is not superior to its THE Rasa Sayang, but it is certaintly superior to other hotels along Batu Ferringhi, and superior where prequalified from its pool landscaped, F%26amp;B outlets, garden compound, kids village and also water sports facilities.

Its closest competitor will be ParkRoyal.

Penang Golden Sands

The Golden Sands is a very nice resort, try to organise a room in the middle of the building (above reception) on the third floor. Sea facing.

The Rasa Sayang is way overpriced for the location, its not exactly Datai Bay.

The Grand Plaza Park Royal is also very nice, but the pool area/gardens are not as good as GS.

Please try the roast duck and chicken at Global Bay food court just opposite (GS), great value and truely delicious.

There is also a great little restuarant right next door to GS, its on the walkway through to the beach, very popular with GS regulars. Come out of GS and turn right, you will see a small car park, walk through towards the beach and you will see it on the right. Great chinese food.

Its a very good hotel and great for families. The next door hotel has been restyled to be more upmarket. Both are part of the Shagri La group.

Try to get a seaview room.

just returned recently from 6 nights at the Golden Sands and can thoroughly recommend it. It has lovely grounds and a great pool area.

Make sure you book a seaview room as the views are wonderful. Don%26#39;t book the hillview rooms as you get a view of the main road and town before you get to view the hills and you also get an early morning wake up call from the local mosque.

The Rasa Sayang next door has even more beautiful grounds but it has just gone through an upgrade and is very very expensive. Because it was shut down for 2 years for the upgrade most of the staff are new and very inexperienced and as a result the service does not come any where near matching the 5star cost.

Definately stay at Golden Sands. Kids would love the 3 swimming pools there. Security very good. Safe and child-friendly resort.

Get the sea-facing rooms, abt the 3rd floor. You coul also inquire about the 1 bedroom suites. Really nice and quiet.

You also have access to the 6-star Rasa Sayang facilities next door. Night market and cheap food just outside the resort. Great location and the best so far.

Loads of Aust and other foreign tourists there too. Although, I%26#39;d stick to the resort compound to sunbathe as the beach is pretty busy and not so clean.
