Currency for Sabah

Hi,

Just wondering, can you get Malaysian ringitts in the UK to use in Sabah?

Also is it better to take Pounds Sterling or USD Cash for exchange whilst over there?

Thanks again for anyone who can advise me.

Hi Shenzie.

You will have no problem buying Ringitts here in the UK. Please be aware though that you are only allowed to take RM1000 per person into Malaysia with you.

I have taken both US$%26#39;s and UK£%26#39;s with me in the past and never had any problems with either. Yesterday I was asking on the forum about the difference in exchange rates and it appears that there is a better rate available in Sabah than here in the UK (approx 30c to every £).

There are plenty of visitors to the forum who can advise further about the choice between curencies but i feel that it may be down to personal choice and the rates of exchange available. I was advised of the following link if it helps,

Hi Shenzie,

Both USD and GBP are widely excepted in banks and currency exchange centres around Kota Kinabalu. To be safe, you may use traveller%26#39;s cheques.

As for local Malaysian banks, you may check out;

publicbank.com.my

for details on foreign currencies.

Cheers,

Charles

Thanks for the info guys....

There are money changes centre. You can change money either using Pounds sterling or USD. Although both are acceptable but most people prefer using USD.
