Help - Advice on Perhentians again

Hi,

Am looking at 5 or 6 days on Kecil or Besar on way back to Thailand from Java with AirAsia.

Flights are pretty much the same to Kuala Terengganu or Kota Bharu price-wise.

Which one is likely to be less hassle/smoother/cheaper/quicker getting to Perhentian islands?

Any accomm recommendations for a young family with kids aged 12 and 6 months very welcome too!

It is nearer to travel from Kota Bahru airport to Kuala Besut jetty in north Terrengganu. It however still takes about 1 hour costing RM 60 to get there. Be prepared to see the poorest and most depressing side of Malaysia while the car passes through the Kelantan villages.

If you prefer nicer view, the drive from Terrengganu airport to Kuala Besut takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Bear in mind, from the jetty, there is still another 20 to 30 min speed boat ride to the island.

Recommended accommodation is Tuna Bay in Perhentian Besar and Impiani Watercolours in Kecil.

Help - Advice on Perhentians again

I went there two years ago with kids at ten. Kota Bharu is the closest city to the jetty and it costs just 40 ringgits to get there by taxi. Kota Bharu is old and a little bit shabby but it is different from the cities in the west coast, worth a visit.

I stayed in the Suria Perhentian Dive Resort, now renamed Senja Bay Dive Resort. It is convenient. There is a big beach with damaged corals in front. Walk about 15 min there is a small beach with beautiful coral. Kids can see the coral without swimming. They just stand there!! Be careful not to step on it.

Walking through a jungle you can reach the eastern side of the island. There is a very beautifu sandy beach. You can take a water taxi if you dont wanna walk.

Go on a snorkeling trip. My kids loved it so much. The boatman was kind. For more than two hours he brought us to see coral and turtles. Should not be missed.
