Lanai Gurney Corporate Suites

Hi

My family and I will be staying in KL for a week and I was looking for a good quality ?serviced apartments with a reasonable price.?

I found several options but I liked The Lanai Gurney Corporate Suites the most ?especially the en-suite Jacuzzi!?

But I was wondering has anyone else every stayed their??

Is the location considered good in terms of how far from KLCC and the public ?transportation systems? ?

Lanai Gurney Corporate Suites

Sailor,

I don’t know the place at all, but I have a very detailed map of KL and just looked on that… regards your question “is the location considered good”. Well, I’ll first give my standard disclaimer of “every individual has a different definition of what constitutes a good location”.

Having said that… personally I wouldn’t consider this place a good location at all… it seems to be really on the very fringes of the city. With LRT station Damai not even being that close to it.

For the typical tourist to KL… this place is well out of what is usually considered the tourist belt. I feel it’s a better location for embassy staff.

If you give us your approximate budget we may be able to help with apartments in a more central location. Name’s that spring to mind that aren’t too expensive… Pacific Regency, Somerset Seri Bukit Ceylon (both of these are very central, compared to Lanai) and then there’s places like Micasa apartments, which are not very central but somewhat better than Lanai. (but I’m afraid I don’t have a better deal with en-suite Jacuzzi!)

Sorry I couldn’t be more help

Lanai Gurney Corporate Suites

Thanks M2006 for your quick response

Their website states:-

(Lanai Gurney Corporate Suites is mere 2 km and 5 minutes drive from KLCC, nearer to the city center than Ampang City and %26#39;One Ampang Avenue%26#39; (Via Jalan Gurney)).

And you can find that at www.lanaigurney.com

We are a large family (8 adults %26amp; 2 children) so good for my family would be specifically ? :-

1-Serviced appartments with relatively good quality.

2- In the near proximity (walking distance)of either KLCC or Jalan Bukit Bintang.

3-Close to public transportation systems.

4-NO balconies children are aged 4 %26amp; 3.

4-Budjet NOT exceeding RM1000 with taxes and breakfast included.

Hi again Sailor,

Re the location of Lania… it’s definitely not walking distance to Bukit Bintang, and unless you like long walks in the heat… I wouldn’t say it’s walking distance to KLCC either. It’s well away from the vast majority of the hotels in the city that class their hotels as “centrally located” (and some of them I even have doubts over how central they are)

You could have a look at the other one’s I mentioned

www.somersetseribukitceylon.com/home.htm

www.micasahotel.com/malaysia/default.html

http://www.pacific-regency.com/

this next one is very central, but I fear the price will reflect that

www.princehotelkl.com.my/homesub/sapartm.htm

Bear in mind the prices will be higher (probably) if you book direct.

I’m not to sure what you mean with your budget… do you want 2 two bedroomed apartments with breakfasts for rm1000? If so, the first three should fall within your price bracket. I don’t think Prince apartments will.

Personally, I haven’t stayed in any of the above apartments, but have heard positive feedback on all 3 and hardly any negative feedback. (some people complain that Micasa is “kinda out of the way”… it’s not *very* central. But other people like it because the surrounding area is quieter. It’s not so far “out of it” as Lanai.

No ideas about balconies… sorry (but that should be obvious if you look on their websites?)

It would be handy if you had an online map of KL then you could see *exactly* where Lanai (and the other apartments) are in relation to KLCC %26amp; Bukit Bintang %26amp; the transport system. Anybody out there got a website with map of KL for Sailor??????????

I’ll see if I can find one and get back to you…

Sailor,

This map might help a little bit. The top right hand quadrant is where Lanai is, you see it listed. MiCasa is also here somewhere, but I think it may just be off the map slightly on the right hand side. Pacific Regency is behind the Shangri-la hotel, which is diagonally across from Equatorial hotel which is listed on the map. Prince hotel and Residences are just behind Crowne Plaza Hotel, (which is listed on the map). Somerset is in the area behind Istana hotel (between Istana and Bukit Bintang, roughly). I was just thinking of another serviced apartment that’s not too pricey and very central. Berjaya Times Square Apartments. It’s also directly on the monorail line (station Imbi). It’s on the bottom right hand map.

Hope this helps somewhat,

I stayed at the Lanai booked via a website. I WILL NEVER stay there again. Also, it is definitely way out of the shopping belt, Bintang and/or KLCC. You need to get transported out there and back - just tell the reception but I had some trouble though. Before I proceed, I must say the staff is very courteous and helpful. It%26#39;s the development itself that I am totally unsatisfied.

First, they gave me keys to the wrong apartment. I have to get back to front desk to exchange the keys. After entering, when I was about to close and lock the main door, realised that there was a hole there and my door can be unlocked anytime. So, back to the front desk and was given another room - what a headache! The sofa set in the hall was so dirty and the %26#39;love seat%26#39; cover was torn that I didn%26#39;t sit on them for the 2 nights I was there. Ants were crawling in the kitchenette. The jacuzzi in the attached bathroom doesn%26#39;t work and the tub is not properly cleaned but at least the bedsheets were clean. Oh yes, the aircon was leaking too! They couldn%26#39;t change another apartment for me as I was told that they were running full house.

Go stay at SuCasa - first time at a serviced apartment. It may be a little old but very spacious and clean. Check out www.sinisini.com, www.asiatravel.com - these are some of the websites I visit to compare prices, etc.

Salam TheSailor, in respect of The Lanai Gurney Drive, I have only this to say--rather misleading to mention that KLCC can be reached within 5 minutes; possibly at 3am in the morning or with police escort.

I have studied the locational map, as provided in marimari website, and looking at the directional route for traffic, either from Jalan Semarak or Jalan Jelatek-- these two roads are heavily congested, and if I may say, not in very particular good areas of KL.

In this thread, someone has also posted sharing his/her experience at this place.

Having taken your budget of RM1,000 inclusive tax and B/fast, and also presuming KLCC is a datum proximity location to your place of stay, one good quality serviced apartment, with properties across the globe, even in Dubai (Somerset Jadaf), is the Ascott Group serviced apartment, opposite Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, and this I say confidently can be reached within 5 minutes walk.

For less than RM1,000, you will be able to get a 3 bedroom premiere ( 1 king sized bed, I queen sized bed, and two twin beds)

Another good quality serviced apartment is PNB Darby Park ( http://www.impression.com.my/Apartments/pnb/darbypark.htm).

Do not be misled with ensuite jacuzzi, it is a marketing gimmick, because it may not be working; and water pressure may not be sufficient. I know this personnally, as jacuzzi is very high maintenance, and the pumps tends to be clogged by soap debris, hair follicles, and it is not easy to operate it--as you mentioned you have kids around, and a jacuzzi in a house, is really not a safety features--a child could drown in one.

With PNB Darby Park (Ampang Park Putra LRT) and the Ascott (Kirana Condominium), the KLCC Putra LRT station are 5 minutes by walk.

From here, you could take it to Dang Wangi station, transfer to Bukit Nanas monorail station and alight at BUkit Bintang monorail station, and visit Little Arab of KL, which is located at Jalan Berangan, off Jalan Bukit Bintang.

There is an Arabic eatery, named Sahara Tent, own and operated by a Arabic chap, named Ala, and he has been sensitive to the needs of Arabic woman having to remove the veil to eat, so in Sahara Tent, there are private dining room, with curtains, for Middle Eastern woman to enjoy their food in complete privacy.

In this area, there is also a Arabic laundrette, in case you may find it sensitive to have your clothing washed with others who may be impregnated with non-halal substances.

I trust this is of help to you. Salam

Salam TheSailor, forgot to add, in Little Arab, you can have shisha also.

Well, I am told, it is a high probability that every Middle Eastern folks enjoy Shisha as a community gatherings and breaking the ice.

I am sure you will definitely feel at home over here.

yet another hotel website that has totally misleading inofrmation regardings it%26#39;s location.

Hi

M2006

You are a real angel with all the detailed information you gave I can%26#39;t thank you enough!

I have put some effort in trying to detail our trip (three weeks for 10 people gives you headaches!) and with time I have gotten a sense of whereabouts , so the KL hotel map you mentioned was very useful.

I am getting somewhat confused because I have found many accommodations in the same area. So I think we%26#39;ll opt for better overall quality even if it%26#39;s a little further away?

Other than the places you mentioned here are some interesting places that I found:-

1. Lanson Place Ambassador Row Residence (Jalan Ampang Hilir).

http://www.lansonplace.com/res_lpar.html

2. Crown Regency Services Apartment (Jalan P Ramlee)

http://crownhotel.com/regency/v2.html

3. The Maple Suite (Changkat Raja Chulan).

http://www.themaplesuite.com

4. Zon All Suites Residence on the Park.

Couldn%26#39;t get sufficient information about the place.

If you can give me your opinion on these places with a simple good/bad answer. I would appreciate it a lot.

Of what you mentioned I liked the Pacific Regency (but official website promotional rates are still a little too high) and The Somerset Seri Bukit Ceylon (but I think no breakfast is provided)?

LeMe

Sorry to hear that your stay at Lanai Gurney was a painful experience! And thanks for the detailed insight that you gave.

I think the property is a timeshare residence and maybe that’s why the faults are many?

mKiaratravel

We have decided to stay away from the Lanai Gurney!

But I do have a question which I have no answer to: Why do SOME hotels/apartments in KL have special rates for so called (Guests?!) from the Middle East?

Here are some examples:-

Sunway Lagoon (More than 55% Increase on surcharge per room than normal surcharge for international guests)

pinganchorage.com.my/malaysia_hotel/selangor…

PNB Darby Park (Boasts more than 65% increase for a Deluxe floor 3 Bedroom Suite KLCC view with Breakfast)

pinganchorage.com.my/malaysia_hotel/kuala_lu…

The Ascott

Didn’t find exact rates but did find this (Rates above applies to Worldwide market except Middle East (Rack rates apply for guests holding passports from Middle East countries))

www.journeymalaysia.com/cityklascott.htm

I respect and understand the fact that some hotels/apartments have special rates for Malaysian Nationals BUT I can not accept the fact that (Guests?!) from the Middle East are paying extra (and in some cases way too extra!) just for (holding passports from Middle East countries)!

I have sent email after email to these establishments for clarification but they ALL never answer? I am annoyed with the fact that there are people in Malaysia who are giving a bad impression about Malaysian tourism the country that is well known for the friendliness of its people and beauty of its land. So I have decided to boycott every hotel/apartment that has special rates for (Guests?!) from the Middle East. Around the world a (Guest) is treated in respect and not taken advantage of.

I am also preparing an official letter to the Office of the Minister of Tourism with all the detailed information.

As for Little Arab I like the initiative but I am wary about the mentioned issue of taken advantage of .

I thank you for your concern and the detailed information you have given me. I would also like to know your personal impression about the places I mentioned to M2006 from best to worst.
