Tioma weather

We have been checking the weather for Tioman in May ,and it seems that it has had thunderstorms every day throughout the month.

Is this the normal weather for May?

The forecast for most tropical countries like Malaysia tends to show thunderstorm everyday especially in the afternoon. This is because of the common phenomenon of condensation of vapour from the rain forrest (forrest that creates rain, hence ';rain forrest';).

This does not mean that it will even rain everyday. A lot of rain cloud may form but blown to elsewhere before it rains. Otherwise during the dry season in Tioman (Mar/Apr - Oct) it may sometimes rain in the afternoon for a short while or less than an hour which is often a welcome relief from the heat and water shortage.

Southeast Monsoon season in South China Sea affecting Tioman and other east coast area starts from Nov to Feb/Mar, this is when you should avoid visiting the affected area where the wave can be high, sea choppy and rain can go on for hours or for days.
