Currency

Hi sorry I keep posting loads of messages!

Is it best to exchange Pound Sterling to Ringglitts when we arrive or to bring in 1000 ringglits?

Thanks again

Hi,

The exchange rate in the UK is LESS favourable than when you arrive.

Also, don%26#39;t do it at the airport or in a hotel, you are best to visit one of the money changers in the shopping malls although from experience, when my folks where here on a visit, they also vary from outlet to outlet.

Banks are pretty fixed, however money changers sometimes have the edge, but only slightly....

Take some currency with you and change the rest there although, depending on where you are staying, if you are having to pay for a taxi to visit a cash machine or go to the banks in Kuah Town you will probably find that you are not gaining anything by getting a slightly lower rate to change money in your hotel, if you see what I mean!

Don%26#39;t change in the UK, the rates are horrible. Change when you arrive at KLIA. There are two pretty good money changers, one before you reach the luggage belts (think its RHB Bank) and the other just on the left of international Arrivals (Bank Bumiputra).

thanks for the useful info... I%26#39;m sure it used to be around £1 to ten ringglits but at the moment its around £1 to 6.7 ringglits?

Thanks again to everyone who has assisted, we%26#39;re off to Langkawi in June... very much looking forward to it!!!

Hi

It was around 6.8 Ringgits last year - can%26#39;t ever remember it being as much as 10 Ringgits - wow!

Lesley

Highest was 7.8 in 1997 after the economic crisis. Don%26#39;t worry, standard of living in Langkawi is pretty low, so you won%26#39;t have to spend much. Happy holidays!

There is a bank/moneychanger at Langkawi airport (just to the left when you come out of arrivals) and this seemed a pretty good rate when I changed money. Certainly better than the hotel we stayed at.

All the rates I got out in Langkawi were better than I was offered in the UK (I checked LloydsTSB, Marks %26amp; Spencer, Thomas Cook and Travelex - M%26amp;S was actually the best I saw!)
