Getting around KL!

Hey there

Going to KL for 3 nights after 10 nights in Bali. Never been before, and to be honest dont know much about the place but it was included in our deal!!! Really excited though, so any basic info and tips would be really usefull....

But my main line of enquiry is to find out the best way to get about.... how easy it is.... how expensive it is..... and what is the best way to get about?

Thanks in advance!!

Getting around KL!

bex,

I don%26#39;t want to complicate things for you. The best way to get around KL is on the MRT, try the buses, its a bit of a hassle, lastly use the taxi, if they don%26#39;t use a meter, offer them half the asking price before you get in to the vehicle !

Enjoy your trip, its really rather nice in KL.

Getting around KL!

Hi, I stayed in KL and got taxis everywhere-they are so cheap. They probably could have been even cheaper-depends on how good you are at haggling!!Really great shopping both top end and fakes.%26#39;Gucci%26#39; wallets GBP3.00!!Great fake %26#39;Timberland%26#39; handbags,%26#39;Vuitton%26#39; luggage, %26#39;Mont Blanc %26#39; pens, and every make of watch you can think of-I loved it.Food of every type is also really inexpensive.

PS.If you wear glasses take your prescription with you as they are miles cheaper than UK and can be made up really quickly. Also contact lenses half price to here.If you are interested I think I can dig out the opticians address etc of the one I used who was highly professional-vari focals into old frames within 24 hrs.

U should try the taxi, it%26#39;s the cheapest in Asia... last i heard the authorities are getting their acts together, and revoking the taxi licences for those that found to be overcharging and not following the meters...

Taxi%26#39;s the easiest. But they usually quote 2-3 times the ';meter'; price. Authorities are always trying to ';get their acts together';. But I can assure you. It%26#39;s not working. YET.

I stay there periodically as my boyfriend%26#39;s working there for a couple of years. And I still get drivers quoting me ';tourist prices';, which I refuse of course. And drivers like to stop at petrol kiosks enroute to pump petrol while u r in the taxi. This often wastes at least 15 min of your time.

Restaurants and clubbing are cheap there.

forget about whatever action they are going to take against these taxi driveres, its not going to work, so you will have to bargain or risk RIPP OFF. Last week, I jsut read another complain about taxi drivers on NST online... same old story... Of course, they do face some serious problem in executing their tasks, but lets just leave it to the politicans to managed their act. At the mean time, we, the travellers still need to get on with whatever trip we are going to made and at least, enjoy the trip... just be prepared...

One trick for Singaporeans....I learnt this from a taxi driver...

You can pass off as a Malaysian, and avoid getting ripped off by taxi%26#39;s or at Petaling Street. The trick is to speak English. The English spoken by Malaysians and Singaporeans are quite similar and its not easy to tell apart,

The dead giveaway is when you converse with your friends in Mandarin...the accent is completely different. So avoid conversing in Mandarin if you want to pass off as a local.

Hi bexvena,

Kuala Lumpur is a very interesting place. You just named it, food, shopping, night life everything is there and the price is cheap!!

You could ride the monorail, Putra, Star underground and taxi to go anywhere in KL areas. It is easy, cheap, clean and air-cond.

To go area like KLCC, Central Market (Pasar Seni), Ampang, KL Central take the PUTRA route.

If you wish to go airport, take the Putra and get off at KL Central Station and get the KLIA Express to the airport.

To go to China town, take the Putra and get off at Central Market (Pasar Seni) and walk about 10 minutes and you will be in china town.

Here is the link and map of the route for your info.
