Borneo Rainforest Lodges - Help

Hi,

I am off to Borneo for 13 days in June and want to go into the heart of the jungle for 2 nights. I am not sure which is the nicest lodge to stay at out of the following:

Sakau Rainforest Lodge

Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Tabin Lodge

Any others?

I want to go on a trip to see the wildlife (i am not too worried about the oprangutang sanctuary as I will go to the one at the rasa risa hotel) but would likethe lodge to be as nice as possible. A boat trip would also be nice but not the ne all and end all.

Any help would be grately appreciated - I need to book it soon.

Cheers

Tom

Borneo Rainforest Lodges - Help

Hi Tom

I stayed at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge for 2 nights in April and would go definitely stay there again. The rooms are small and basic, but ok for 2 or 3 nights. The food there is very good, with the dining area right above The Kinabatangan River (there was a python living in the eves above the buffet tables).

The main reason for going is obviously the wildlife and we did see loads- orangutans, proboscis monkeys, elephants, crocodiles, snakes and lots of different birds (take a camera with a good zoom)

There is a chap there called Winston Marshall who does a short tour at the back of the lodge, he%26#39;s quite a funny character and his tour is worth going on.

Most of the wildlife will be seen on boat trips. Try and get boatman called Osman to take you, again he is quite a character and very good at spotting the wildlife.

We also stayed at the Rainforest Lodge in the Danum Valley(about 4 hour drive from Sukau along mostly bumpy roads)

Lovely lodges, great food and very good guides. Again we saw loads of animals on our treks, this was my wifes favourite part of our trip. You can go tubing on the river here, no crocs(I guess).

The Rasa Ria is a great hotel, real luxury after staying in the lodges.

The rehabilitation centre there is not as good as Sepilok, but still worth going to.

I hope this helps, and have great trip

Barry

If you are looking for the nicest lodge, then it would be the Borneo Rainforest Lodge in the Danum Valley.

However, the other poster gave a pretty good rundown, and the lodges are in entirely different locations. Sukau is a river lodge and most of your sightseeing is done from boats. The Borneo Rainforest Lodge is in the middle of primary forest jungle and most of your sightseeing is by hiking. In terms of accommodations, Borneo Rainforest was MUCH nicer than the Sukau. The Danum Valley is also more physically beautiful. However, I really enjoyed my stay in Sukau (especially the early morning boat trips) and saw even more animals than we did in the Danum Valley. Winston is a real character and I can attest to the existence of the python in the dining area.
