We have a 7 hour layover in KL on our way from London to Langkawi. Any ideas what to do if anything? There are 6 us of including 3 teenagers and my 75 year old mum.

7 hour layover in KL

englishrose,

This is just a suggestion, I%26#39;ve done this myself.

If your domestic flight is with MAS, ask them to bring it forward when you arrive at KILA.

With three teenagers and your mum traveling I don%26#39;t think it would be much fun trying to do a dash into KL.

Might be worth considering a rental on a room at Pan Pacific at KLIA. You can walk to it from the terminal.

There is not much to do in the airport.

You don%26#39;t say at what time you arrive and depart KLIA.

7 hour layover in KL

Hi.

No point going to KL if it%26#39;s only 7 hours. Airport is quite far. You should hang around at the airport. We have good duty free shopping, restaurants etc. May as well get whatever souvenirs you need. Be careful about shopping in Langkawi bcos you may end up paying more.

Enjoy your stay and have a safe journey!

7 hours in the Airport is too much, believe me there%26#39;s not enough shopping in KLIA to keep you occupied for that long, not even Changi Airport in Singapore can claim that ....

Now there%26#39;s a very viable option: I would asume all your luggage are checked in directly to Langkawi, no? Do that and get your boarding pass first.

Take the ERL , which is the rail link between KLIA and Sentral Station.... from there you can take the transit at Putra Light Rail Transit (LRT) to KLCC station for a quick tour and have lunch/dinner/high tea at one of the restaurants. And take a few pictures of that lovely twin towers and just while your time there, it%26#39;s so much better than stay in KLIA. Take into account the time from KLIA to KLCC is about, to be on the safe side, 2 -1/2hours to %26amp; fro...so you have 4-1/2 hours of shopping time, not bad....

1. There%26#39;s a science centre on the top floor called Petrosains, which is smallish, family oriented centre with nice ride.

2. The Kinokuniya bookshop, this sprawling bookshop is definitely worth a visit, very nice selection of books in various languages.

3. Restaurants: There are several nice ones and a host of other eateries. e.g. Chinoz, the one at the Aseana gallery, Dome, and a few on the upper levels...

4. The fountain park, quite nicely laid out, people watching...

I recommend KLCC because of its connectedness to the KLIA, so you don%26#39;t have to hassle yourself with taxis and such, which can be a pain in KL.

Thanks for advice on various options- I see from the search there is a Plaza Premium Lounge at the airport- does anyone know what its like? Is there anywhere I can find a pool we can use?

I think checking into the Pan Pac hotel would be a viable option.

The train to KL cost RM35 per pax one way. From there you need to walk and take another train (Putra LRT to KL). Total cost for 6 persons return will be in access of RM 420 with mum in tow.

It would be better to go to the airport hotel, get a room. Those tired can shower, sleep. Others can hang out at the pool. (This is assuming your arrival and departure time works for the hotel).

The duty free and shopping at the airport is very simple and cannot compare with Dubai, Singapore or Hong Kong.

If you are flying MAS from KL to Langkawi, you may want to check how much it costs to upgrade to first class for the KL-Langkawi sector, as the first class lounge at the KLIA is not bad, there%26#39;s showers, ok food and a place to relax, but 7 hours is really very long, and I think catching an earlier flight if you can is still be better opttion.

Thanks Maic we have already tried to get an earlier flight to Langkawi but no luck (probably as its just before Christmas ) I have booked a room for the day at the Pan Pacific Hotel- we arrive at 7a.m so the timing is quite good- some can rest or watch TV in the room and others can use the pool. Thanks for your help.

Please write to the hotel and ensure they have a room waiting for you at 7am when you arrive.

Will an email of confirmation do from the hotel or do you suggest I write as well?
