Wedding anniversary in Kuala Lumpar

Hello

For our 1st wedding anniversary my wife and I are planning to spend 7 days in Kuala Lumpar %26amp; 7 days in Penang (we are both in our early / mid 20%26#39;s). We would really appreciate some advise on what to do and what to expect.

We have seen a great deal to stay at the Renaissance Hotel in KL, do you know if this hotel is any good and is it located in a good accessable area? Someone suggested I look into it as they have a west wing and east wing, with the west wing being better!

Shopping - we both like markets/night markets looking for bargins etc... specially things for the house, can you recommend some night markets please?

We would go to the shopping malls to see what they are like however have no intension of buying anything in particular unless its extremely cheap, any suggestion on must see malls, although this is not very important

Places to eat - I suppose I am looking for a few romantic places specially for the night of our anniversary. We both like asian.chinese food so thats not an issue, a romantic atmosphere is vital.

Nightlife - we both like clubbin and dancing, any bars/clubs you can recommend would be appreciated.

If you have any other general suggestion please let me know.

Many thanks

Dr J

First on your choice of hotel. Based on your love for clubbing and dancing, its not a bad choice. Its across the road to Asia Heritage Row (on the Sheraton Imperial side), which has a number of chic hangouts. Across the road on the other side of Jalan Tun Razak is Zouk, also very happening. Further down Jalan Sultan Ismail will be the Jalan P Ramlee clubs. So no problem in the location department here. There are 2 wings to the hotel, the New World Wing and the Renaissance Wing. The Renaissance Wing is better.

7 days in KL is a long time. What do you have in mind on how tp spend your time in KL?

Are there any romantic restaurants you can recommend, any kind of food is ok with us, except I don%26#39;t like sea food much. Chinese, indian etc... is all good.

In terms of night life can any one recommend any good clubs?

We both like clubbin and bar%26#39;s...

Are there any zoo%26#39;s around? can we travel outside KL to do things like elephant treaking etc???

The place to eat that most will recommend to you in this forum will be Tamarind Springs. Its affordable, serves Vietnam/Thai fusion, and is really romantic.

A nice chill out and romantic place would be a roof top pool bar and we have 2 near your hotel. Luna Bar @ Menara Pan Global or Sky Bar @ Traders Hotel.

For a special evening, go see the fireflies in Kuala Selangor. Book a car/driver that will take you to Kuala Selangor town to have a riverside seafood dinner (6pm) to see the sunset. When the sun has set and its dark, ask him to drive you to the firefly sanctuary to see thousands of fireflies blinking by the river.

I have answered you about the Elephant sanctuary. Do some research on Bukit Tinggi Berjaya Hills Resort and Genting and see if it tickles your fancy. If you want to go to Elephant Sanctuary, make these two locations (which are sort of on the way) a part of a day trip itineray.

My wife and I have recently returned from K.L. We had a great meal in the revolving restaurant at the K.L. Tower. We enjoyed it so much we went again on our last night. It is advisable to book though. You can also visit the ';eye on Malaysia'; at lake park.Chow Kit has a good night market, you can use the monorail to get there for RM160.A visit to the Petronas Twin Towers is a must.Get there early and queue for free tickets.(closed Monday). There is a Hop-on Hop-off tour bus, a great way to have a City tour (RM45).Tickets are valid for 24 hours. You may want to visit all the places on the route.Hope this helps.

Hi,

Just to quickly clarfiy the previous post.. The Renaissance rebranded their wings earlier this year. The Renaissance Wing is now the WEST wing and the NEW WORLD wing is now the EAST WING.

Agree that Tamarind Springs is probably a good bet for a romantic meal, visit their website on tamarindrestaruants.com and I am sure you can book online. They will also arrange to pick you up for free.

Try Central Market for your nic nacs for home although some can be a ltitle pricy, you can haggle a little bit. Pewter is also a good buy and Royal Selangor have some very contemporary and funky designs.

Shopping Malls, prices are just like home so don%26#39;t even bother...!!! KLCC is one to pop into if yo are nearby and have some good places to eat or people watch...

As for other romantic restaurants you would either have to go into one in the hotels, such as in the Shangri-la; Lafite, or head to one of the independant ones such as the Tamarind group. As mentioned earlier, Star Hill also have some great outlets and Nero Vivo if you like Italian...

hope that helps.
