Hello I need to know which is better for families Langkawi or penang? I have been told that there is no trasportation in Langkawi after 8 pm is that true?

First let me tell you transportation in Langkawi is mainly available with Taxi the whole day , you can also rent car it is affordable.
in regards of your selection penang or Langkawi, it is what you are looking for!
if it is beach, Langkawi for sure; if you want visit an heritage city then it is Penang, if you like nature and rain forest or mangrove, etc.. then it will be Langkawi.

Taxi available on Langkawi from early morning onwards. Double rates after midnight.
There is no bus service on the island ! Taxi or nothing excluding car rental.
Really think you should think about Penang, very, very limited nightlife and not what I%26#39;d call a city cerntre on Langkawi, just a small town really.
If you are with a young family, I believe Langkawi is a good bet, you have the best of both world but don%26#39;t expect wild nioght out here! :))

as what i know, most of tourist prefer to find hotel near the beach when they planning to finish their holiday at Langkawi.
The popular area is Pantai Cenang, there is many hotel and motel also chalet..
Four Season Hotel is quite expensive but if you have budget for that, it%26#39;s doesn%26#39;t matter..;p

Can recommend Mutiara or Pelangi Beach. Good locations for both but Pelangi is nearer shops etc.
Sheraton Perdana is Westin now, its near the Jetty on the s.e.coast, right next to Kuah. Hilly to get in and out of.
Sheraton Langkawi is still a Sheraton, thats on the west of the island, the side that attracts more visitors.
