Shopping: KL or Bangkok

I will be visiting both Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok in June. Was wondering which city would be a better place to shop.

Also would like to know the best shopping places in both these places.

Shopping: KL or Bangkok

Hi, both cities do offer good places to shop, particularly if you have something particular in mind.

Beginning on 16June- early Sept.07, malls in KL will be participating in Malaysia%26#39;s Mega Carnival Sales.

If your visit in BKK coincide with a weekend, then should not miss the weekend Chatucak market- where myriad of shops in natural air setting (i.e. no air conditioning) selling many nicks nacks, clothing, leather ware and even animals. No market of this kind in KL in comparison.

Best shopping places- to give a mention, requires prequalification.

Lower-middle end, lots of choices:-

BKK :- Mah Boon Krung

KL:- Sungai Wang Plaza

Higher end, boutiques shops

BKK -e.g. Emporium, Trade Center, Gaysorn Plaza

KL-e.g. Starhill Gallery, and Suria KLCC

Personally, with tariff protection of the local garment industry, foreign labels clothes ware are priced higher in Thailand, than in KL-this even extends to food, where ingredients are imported.

E.g. a lemon in KL is only priced RM1-RM2, whereas in BKK, in a supermarket (Tops), that I went to, a lemon was priced three times the price in KL, as this is imported and Thai have their own version of lemon.

Fast food in Thailand are also priced very high- take the Burger King whopper, which I actually had one in Phuket in my recent trip, this year- THB259(around RM25.90)-- a good consumer index to use. Over here in KL, for that price, one can have at least two whopper large meals.

So, similar pricing for shopping items-- local goods such as those in Chatuchak are much better than in KL-e.g. Thai silk, woodcarvings, and even tailoring, where within 2/3 days, a suit can be made at lower price than in KL.

Hi

I would say that it is better in Bangkok. I just came back from Bangkok and they have expanded a lot since I went there 5 years ago. If you go to the Siam area you should be able to find pretty much everything in places like MBK, Siam Paragon, Central World Place, Central Chitlom etc. I%26#39;ll send you my trip reports from both places and maybe you can find some useful info there :-)
