Langkawi - how does it compare to Penang ?

We went to Penang last year and stayed at the Shangi-La Golden Sands. We were disappointed with the hotel as it was quite run down but loved the food outside of the hotel.

We are thinking of going to Langkawi in July and were wondering how it compares to Penang. Is the food as cheap and as good ? We are trying to decide between the Pelangi Beach or Sheraton Langkawi if anyone has any comments.

The food on Langkawi cannot be compared to what is available in Penang. Food in the resorts is good, but outside the standards are not very good. Don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be impressed by PB or SL if you were disapointed with GS.

Sorry ! Just noticed you posted twice !

Yes Alberts Cat thats true and....for the poster

you can never compare apples and pears!

What do you want for your holiday? Good food, good beach, five star ? well go to Four Seasons, Andaman or Datai!

You want the experience of nature on Langkawi Geopark go for nature and book a homestay or a hotel in the middle of Langkawi ! Its just what you want Langkawi can offer you a lot of possibilities!

Hi Shortm,

If you are looking for a quiet and relax place with nice beach, Langkawi is the place as beach are so much better and cleaner than Penang (Don%26#39;t get me wrong, I love Penang but they have not put their act yet together to make Penang Clean.

For food, Langkawi is starting to offer a large selection as you could surely read from other tourist who have come and visited Langkawi but of course it won%26#39;t compare to Penang and why should we?

Price wise it is very much the same between both island.

Hope it help

have a fantastic week ahead

Hi

If you do choose to stay on Langkawi go for Pelangi rather than Sheraton.we stayed at Pelangi and loved it.We had a look around the Sheraton and were so glad we didn%26#39;t stay there.Hardly any beach, crappy pool and very dissapointing. There are also a few good restaurants arounf Pelangi area.Regards Tracy

I agree, the Pelangi is better due to its location, good beach, handy for shops and restuarants etc.

The Sheraton Langkawi is a good resort, but you cannot get in or out without transport of some kind. Very small pool, not much of a beach there.

I agree with the other posters. Stay at the Pelangi, it%26#39;s the best option as it has a very good beach %26amp; is only a few minutes walk from restaurants.
