Hiring a driver for 1 day in Langkawi

We%26#39;ll be in Langkawi for 10 hours next month during a port visit on the Superstar Gemini. We would like to hire a driver to go round the island, including a ride on the cable car, a waterfall and general sightseeing and some shopping time at Langkawi Fair Shopping Centre.

Any ideas on how much we should expect to pay for a driver for the day? Should I try and organise someone in advance, or will there be plenty of drivers available at the port? Thanks.

The usual price to hire a taxi is 180RM for six hours. This will include shopping sightseeing etc.

There will be drivers at Port Malai Star Cruise Jetty waiting for the ship to arrive. The drivers obviously know all the favorite places, so your planning can be minimal.

Its usually a good idea to do the Cable Car early in the day, it can become quite hazy as the day goes on.

Thanks AlbertsCat, thats very helpful. Gives us an idea of prices, we%26#39;ll definitely avoid the expensive ship excursions here, would much rather get our own taxi driver. Will be sure and do cable car first thing.

Can%26#39;t remember the exact time the ship docks, usually around 10 am. Ask the driver to go to Oriental Village via Pantai Cenang, you get the Cable Car here. After that take the north road along to Tanjung Rhu, take a few snaps on the public end of the beach.

After this he will head towards Kuah (main own) you can stop at Galeria Perdana, then its down into Kuah for shopping, get him to take you to Langkawi Fair plus the little shops around Maybank area of Kuah. While your in the area you might want to check out Langkawi Yacht Club for lunch. He will take you to other places along the way, but do keep moving time is short and there is quite a lot to fit into 6 hrs. You could also have dinner at Pantai Cenang before going onboard the ship, its only 5/10mins back to the port from here.

Have a wonderful cruise.

Sorry, should have said after Langkawi Fair get the driver to drop you off at Jetty Point, you can then walk over to Eagle Square. Thats where the giant eagle statue is that you see in all the photo%26#39;s. Most people head for this place for a snapshot, it kind of proves you have been to Brown Eagle Island (Palau Langkawi).

Hi

How many people can fit into a taxi or hire car? When we get to Langkawi there will be five of us, two adults and three teenagers. Would we need two hire cars?

Deb

If you want to I can give you the phone number of a friendly driver who speaks enghlish and have a comfortable car.

He knows all the interested places and can bring you to nice restaurants.

There is a new shopping center in Kuah its called the Parade this is very nice. Have fun on your trip and don%26#39;t hesitate to ask me information about Langkawi.

Vast majority of taxi on Langkawi are minibus, they will hold up to 9/10 adults. So don%26#39;t worry, you will all get in without any problems.

In Langkawi all the drivers know each other, they will make sure you get a suitable vehicle by calling one of the other drivers.

langkawiover,

Where abouts is this place the Parade. I don%26#39;t remember this or any construction of this kind apart from the new landfill at the Padang Matsirat junction in Kuah.

Hi Albertscat,

This new shopping mall ';parade'; is located next to Teow Soon Huat in Kuah.

You can also walk from Teow Soon Huat into this mall so you can really spend a long time in this building. there is also a cinema on the 5th floor (i think)

And about the taxis: well some cars are really old! And not all the drivers speak english that doesn%26#39;t matter when they bring you from A to B! When you make an islandtour I prefer that the driver can speak enghlish so that he can also tell you interesting things.

Have a nice evening
