Day trip to Malacca

I%26#39;m thinking of taking a day trip to Malacca and another day to Genting Highlands by myself instead of joining a local tour. Is this possible, which type of transportation should I be looking at?

I%26#39;ve read so much about this restaurant called %26#39;Colliseum%26#39; on Jln Tun Adbdul Rahman. Which train will take me there?

Day trip to Malacca

Hi Castlebridge,

To get to Melaka, take the many hourly buses from Puduraya bus station. Metrobus and Transnational are two of the reliable buses. Fare is under RM10 per way with journey time between 2 to 2.5 hours and if during rush hours (7-9am, 5-8pm) and long weekend, the journey can be up to 3 hours.

Once you are at Melaka Sentral, go to tourist info desk for map of historic Melaka. Take green town bus no.17 to get to the Studhuys (Dutch Square with distinctive red houses) or take the Panorama Bus Tour from Melaka Sentral. The historic places of interests are along both side of the river.

There are many buses to Genting from KL sentral and Puduraya (buy from station counters, not outside touts). Journey time about 1.5hours.

Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman can be accessed from LRT station between Medan Tunku and Chow Kit. Not sure where the Colliseum cafe is but this street is also famous for its night market for locals. This is however a seedy area where there are prostituition and pickpockets.

As for the Genting Highland, it is easy to do on your own as I used to do this myself. check this link.

You could opt for the bus from Pudu Raya or take the Putra LRT to Gombak station.

Make sure you purchase your return ticket to KL and check the time for the skyway cable car to go down and the bus/LRT time leaving from Genting to KL.

As for the %26#39;Colliseum restaurant%26#39;, it is in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, there are few option to get there:

1. You could take a taxi to the restaurant in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and it is located near a cinema and opposite Kamdar shopping complex.

2. Take Putra LRT and get off at Masjid Jamek Station and walk up about 10 minutes to Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

3. Take Star and if I am not mistaken get off at Bandaraya Station and walk to Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman after the Sogo Mall on your left about 10 - 15 minutes walk you will see the Cafe.

Here is a link to the Putra LRT and Star system.
