Part of a recently posted review for this hotel included this eye catching quote ';The beach is unswimmable though, it smelled like sewage and I didn%26#39;t see anyone going into the water. ';
Anyone care to comment?
Beach/Sea at Shangri-La's Tanjung AruI am visiting in August and it is my understanding that the beach/Water suffers issues of rubbish floating down from city. The hotel does work to try and keep it tidy but if it is a pristine beach that you want, the Rasa Ria may be better.
That being said, you have easy access to the Jetty/Beachbums where you can catch a boat which will take you out to the islands which is will be far more tolerable, pristine and picturesque.
I supose it comes down to a trade off of proximity to the city. For me, the choice was obviously to be closer to town since I%26#39;ve stayed in remote resort/Hotels before and I don%26#39;t like to be confined.
Beach/Sea at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aruhi,
we are just back from the Tanjung Aru Resort - the hotel has its own beach which is cleaned regularly but it is small and quite stoney - we tended to stick with the pool.
The beach the reviewer may be referring to is the tanjung aru public beach which is next to the resort- it is huge but does have some problems with rubbish. We didnt notice any smell but we didnt spend long there.
The best beaches are on the islands 5 mins boat ride from the hotel- clean fine sand, clear blue waters %26amp; amazing tropical fish swimming around you! we went a number of times.
we did visit the rasa ria resort too and it does have a huge beach of its own but then you are compromising on location as its around 30-40 mins drive from kota kinabalu as opposed to the tanjung aru being only 5 mins drive.
it depends what you are looking for from your holiday but i would defintely stay at the tanjung aru again
:-)
