Advice needed

This is my first time time on the Asian forum and are seeking advice on Langwaki.

Myself and my fiance are considering spending our honeymoon here due to all the favourable reviews we have read, there are a number of hotels which seem very relaxing and peaceful, especially the Casa Del Mar and the Datai.

Our budget is around 拢5000 for about three weeks.

Could someone point us in the direction of a good tour operator who could organise all of our needs as we like to visit various parts of Malaysia in one week breaks, for example, first week in Kuala Lumpa, then second week in Langwaki and finally last week just hopping from island to island.

Any help would be greatly appreciated aswe are complete novices.

Cheers Baz and Sam.

Hi

Best thing to do would be to pop into one of your local travel agents and ask them to tailor make the holiday for you. I know that both Tradewinds and Kuoni do this.

The only other alternative is to trawl the net and book it yourselves - might work out slightly cheaper that way but much more hassle!!

You may find that a week in Kuala Lumpur is perhaps a bit too long - 3/4 days is usually the norm and in that time you will be able to see all the sights and do plenty of shopping.

Your choice of hotels in Langkawi - CDM or Datai will really eat into your GBP5,000 budget - I know they both get excellent reviews but should do for the price. Have you looked at any of the cheaper options?

Not sure what other information you would like. If there is anything specific please ask.

Travelbag, Flightbookers and AirlineNetwork are all reputable firms that can arrange tailormade intineraries. Malaysia Experience may also be worth taking a look at.

The main luxury end (honeymoon resorts) on Langkawi are The Datai, Tanjung Rhu, Four Seasons, The Andaman. All in the north.

There are some others for the more budget concious at Burau Bay and Pantai Cenang. Berjaya, Mutiara, Pelangi, CDM and perhaps Bon Ton.

As Lesley has suggested, a week in KL might be to long, I also feel that 3/4 days is probably enough to see most things around the city.

Then you could divide the rest of your time between Penang and Langkawi. You could easily travel to KL, then fly on to Penang and on to Langkawi by ferry. Then take a direct flight back to KL for your flight back to the UK.

Langkawi does have some sightseeing but is mostly a beach/resort kind of holiday island. Very little entertaiment outside the resorts.

In contrast, Penang is a more sophisticated island and has a very different feel to that of laid back Langkawi.

Lots of history and culture on Penang, there is very little if any on Langkawi.

Both are great places, but for very different reasons.

Hi Lesley.

Thanks for the quick reply, honeymoon not until next June but might just spend a couple of days in Kuala Lumpa and remainder of break in Langwaki, probably at Casa Del Mar, for about ten days.

The following week is still up for grabs.

Budget was just an estimate, my parents have promised us this amount just to make sure Sam takes me off their hands.

Judging by the reviews we haveread there seems to be a vast array of eating establishments, do they cover a wide spectrum or is it mainly oriental cuisine.

What price would you pay for a typical dinner with a bottle of wine and a few beers in one of the local eateries.

Any idea what the weather will be like at the end of June.

Any help is appreciated

Will you be going for 3 weeks or 12 days ? It will make a big difference deciding the best itinerary.

Hi

We%26#39;re honeymooning in Langkawi this July at the Datai. We%26#39;re spending 3 nights in Singapore, 10 nights in Langkawi and 3 nights in Kuala Lumpur. Works out at about 6k though we are staying 5 star in Singapore %26amp; Kuala Lumpur which hikes the prices up.

I%26#39;ve read so much about the weather in Langkawi and on this forum and have come to the conclusion that the best description is ';tropical';. It seems quite mixed but don%26#39;t expect it to be wall to wall sunshine. I%26#39;ve seen people post expecting it to be like Greece!

I will be giving a trip report when we%26#39;re back at the end of July.

By the way, we%26#39;ve booked our trip independently but I%26#39;m used to doing that with all our holidays. We did look at Trailfinders %26amp; Kuoni who seem good.

Good luck with planning your trip.

Kirsty

Just get yourself in a Beach Bar and get hammered

Hi Nutz

If you do stay at Casa del Mar this is in the main tourist area and there are lots of different places to eat outside the hotel and you can probably get a decent meal for 2 for around GBP 15 - and that%26#39;s on the top side!

Eating in the hotel will be a bit more expensive - still cheaper though than UK prices.

Good idea to start planning your honeymoon early - one less wedding arrangement out of the way!!

Hi Nutz,

Lucky you! My advice on Langkawi (see others for mainland Malasia) would be spend 3-4 nights at Casa del Mar (upgrade to the Suites it makes all the difference) then go up to the Datai. If possible stay in a Villa they are simply amazing.

The great thing about this is you can enjoy the busy area of Casa and hire a car and get around a bit and it%26#39;s very easy, then go for luxury and relaxation at the Datai, you won%26#39;t want to leave.

Very envious! Have a look at my review of the Datai from Christmas for some tips!

Nutz,

Sorry I forgot to mention, try Destinology for booking, they have been great with us booking Thailand as well. Good prices too!

Just book in at Four Seasons and make the parents pay. LOL !
